What is Storytelling?

A story is an account of events in the past, it is history.
Storytelling is when someone recites a part of history.

A Storyteller is someone who tells a story well.  However, the story may become embellished, or certain events accentuated, or be told overly dramatic or the story may become changed completely.  But this is what makes storytelling so exciting.

Storytelling is deeply human; we all want to share our stories.  Many artists are inspired by storytelling.  The subjects for stories come from mythology, religion, autobiography, literature, fantasy, history and more.

The previous slide had images that refer to the fairytale, Little Red Riding Hood.  Did you know that the story of Little Red Ridding Hood is known all over the world?  To further understand the complexity of storytelling, revisit the story of Little Red and discuss the versions of the story.
