Under the leadership of professional spoken word artist Will Richey, Ms. Day’s 1st period Art class and Mrs. Gooding’s 2nd period Yearbook class at De Zavala Middle School were challenged to write spoken word pieces. Some students reflected on past highlights and future goals, using their reflections to create works of poetry. Others explored the subjects of their role models and life skills to create autobiographical stories. Finally, students learned the basics of spoken word artistry as they self-elected to share their works in a performance format.
